Brand New. Less Than 500km. Petrol in Diesel. Here’s What Happened.
The Kia Tasman has only just arrived on Australian roads — and we’ve already attended our first wrong fuel callout on one.
The vehicle in question was virtually brand new. Less than 500 kilometres on the clock, fresh from the dealership, and on its first tank of fuel. Petrol had been put into the diesel tank — one of the most common wrong fuel scenarios we attend across Melbourne every week, and one of the most damaging if not handled correctly.
The job was attended in Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs.
What Happened
The Tasman had been driven to a worksite in Melbourne’s south east before the driver realised the mistake. With work to get to and time pressure on, the vehicle had covered some distance on the contaminated fuel before the callout was made.
This is one of the more challenging scenarios we attend — not because the vehicle is difficult to service, but because once a diesel engine has been running on petrol contamination, the clock is ticking on potential damage to the high pressure fuel pump and injectors. The longer contaminated fuel circulates through a common-rail diesel system, the greater the risk.
Rapid Fuel Assist attended the scene, completed a full fuel drain, flushed the system, replaced the fuel filter, and refuelled with the correct diesel. The Kia Tasman was inspected, started cleanly, and returned to normal operation on the spot. No tow truck. No workshop. No downtime beyond the service itself.

About the Kia Tasman
The Kia Tasman is Kia’s first purpose-built ute for the Australian market — a direct competitor to the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, and Isuzu D-Max. It runs a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine and is already gaining traction with fleet operators, tradies, and businesses across Melbourne.
Like most modern diesel utes, the Tasman uses a high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system. These systems are precision-engineered and rely entirely on diesel’s lubricating properties to function without damage. Petrol in the tank strips that lubrication immediately — which is why acting fast matters so much on these vehicles.
Can Rapid Fuel Assist Service a Kia Tasman?
Yes — without any issues.
We are fully equipped to service the Kia Tasman across all wrong fuel scenarios including:
Petrol in diesel
Diesel in petrol
Kia Tasman with a petrol engine is currently not available in Australia. However Rapid Fuel Assist can service all other vehicles with a petrol engine and diesel contamination.
AdBlue contamination
Water or contaminated fuel in the system
Our mobile units carry professional-grade extraction equipment, full flush capability, replacement fuel filters compatible with the Tasman, and correct replacement fuel. We attend on-site — whether that is a petrol station forecourt, a worksite, a car park, or the side of the road.

Fleet and Commercial Operators — Take Note
The Tasman is entering Melbourne’s fleet market fast. If you run a fleet that includes Kia Tasmans — or any diesel ute — wrong fuel incidents are a matter of when, not if. Having Rapid Fuel Assist saved in your phone means the next callout gets resolved in under an hour, on-site, without losing the vehicle to a workshop for days.
We service all commercial vehicles including utes, vans, trucks, buses, forklifts, excavators, boats and motorbikes across Melbourne Metro.
